Frequently Asked Questions
AT BARE, WE PRACTICE THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF SANITATION
WHICH MEANS NO DOUBLE DIPPING! EVER!
While double dipping (using the same stick over and over re-dipping it into the wax) is common practice in many salons, this can contaminate an entire wax container which is a serious health risk. NO worries here! We Take pride in the cleanliness of our spa. We hope you notice how hard we work to keep you safe.
The bare facts

Exfoliation

Pain Preventers
The sensation of pain during waxing only lasts a couple of seconds and then immediately goes away. We are confident that you can make it through and your esthetician will be there to support you through the entire process.
Remember, the first time you are waxed will be the hardest but it DOES get easier. Everyone is different but the more you wax, eventually it becomes virtually painless. The first time a client comes in, typically, they are nervous, which causes tension, resulting in more intense emotions…even that of pain. There are several common reactions, like uncontrollable laughter, tears, even “Brazilian Tourette’s Syndrome”, as Paula likes to call it. But after the first visit is over, this uncomfortable feeling should lessen. You’ll see that we are on your side. Our staff does everything we can to help calm your nerves and walk you through the entire process.
Reduce Acidity
*Drink water to hydrate your body and skin.
*You might benefit from taking something like Tums 20 minutes before your service to reduce acidity and therefore reduce skin’s sensitivity.
*Don’t drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol. While having a glass of wine or beer before getting waxed sounds like a great idea, stimulants in the system can cause skin to be extra sensitive to waxing. Save the drinks for after.
*Give yourself a couple of hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed.
Waxing at Home
Trust us, if you have ever watched any videos or read any blogs about waxing horror stories, they could all be inserted here. It sounds like a good idea at first, but it’s hard to do on yourself, and will really hurt if you don’t know what you’re doing. Leave it to our licensed pros.
Regrowth
Because hair growths in different cycles, sometimes the very first wax may result in some stubble growth after only couple of days especially if you have been a shaver. Please, do yourself a favor and do not shave to remove this hair. It will grow back quickly and you will not experience the true benefits of waxing. This regrowth is not the hair that was just waxed but the hair that was already growing under the surface of the skin and/or too short to be grabbed by wax. While it’s usually only a small amount of hair, for more smooth results, we recommend that you wax twice before an event or vacation. The second time, the hair will be waxed during the same point of the growth cycles and there will be less regrowth. WIN! WIN!

After the Wax
Here are some tips to follow during the first 24-48 hours after waxing
- Do not expose treated area to ultra-violet rays indoor or outdoor. For your own protection always wear sunscreen.
- Avoid makeup, if your face was waxed.
- Resist touching freshly waxed skin, especially on the face, back and private area as this may encourage irritation and some breakouts.
- Deodorant with aluminum.
- Salt Glow or stimulating body or facial treatments.
- Do not use any exfoliating products, especially ones containing acids, since they might further irritate your skin
- Showers are better than baths. Use only lukewarm water-not hot.
- No saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools or other heated sources.
- To avoid ingrown hairs don’t wear tight clothes for the next couple of days.
- Sexual activity should be avoided.
- Avoid ingrown hairs by exfoliating waxed area 48 hours after your treatment. This helps your hair grow above skin surface and not become ingrown.
*Applying an ingrown hair solution like PFB Vanish will help maintain smooth skin.
After your first wax, you may experience some sensitivity like redness or irritation in the area that was treated. While this is rare, it can happen. Usually, there is less reaction the longer you wax. If you have very sensitive skin or redness we will likely recommend the use of Image Ormedic Balancing Gel Masque. If you are ever concerned or experience discomfort, please contact our spa and we can walk you through a solution. We are here for you!
Ingrown Hairs
Bumps or Pustules
Waxing No-No's
For the face area, we can’t wax you if you have been using any retinol products…Retin A, Renovo, Differin, etc. These products thin the skin which makes waxing a bad idea. If you aren’t sure if your facial products include these products, please inform us and we can use a hard wax instead of a soft was for your safety.
If you have been using Accutane or any topical or oral steroid, we can’t wax you anywhere. You need to be off this medication for at least a year.
Sunburn? Recent laser resurfacing? Recent chemical peel? For your safety, we will not be able to wax you in these cases.
